Balloon Quantity Guide

How to Read Our Product Titles

Every product at Havin’ A Party Wholesale follows a consistent naming structure that helps you identify what you’re ordering before you add to cart:

[Size"] [Brand Code] [Color / Design] [Finish/Type] ([Pack Count])

For example: 11"T Silver Metallic (100 count) means an 11-inch Tuftex latex balloon in Silver Metallic, sold in packs of 100.

Brand Codes at a Glance

  • A — Anagram

  • B — Brookloon

  • C — Kaleidoscope

  • G — Gemar

  • K — Kalisan

  • O — Oaktree

  • P — PartyDeco

  • S — Sempertex/Betallic

  • T — Tuftex

Packing Styles

Some product titles also include a packing style:

  • PKG — Individually packaged.

  • FLAT — Folded, but not individually packaged.

Pack count tells you how many balloons you receive. Packing style tells you how they’re packaged.

Common Pack Sizes

  • 1 count — Single balloon

  • 5 count — Pack of 5 balloons

  • 10 count — Pack of 10 balloons

  • 50 count — Bag of 50 balloons

  • 100 count — Bag of 100 balloons

Pack sizes vary by brand, size, and product. Always check the count listed in the product title before ordering.

Pack Count vs. Usable Count: What’s the Difference?

The pack count is the number of balloons in the bag you receive. The usable count is how many you can use in a finished design after accounting for:

  • Breakage and inflation rejects — Balloons may pop during inflation or have cosmetic defects. Allow extra balloons when calculating your order.

  • Design adjustments — Some balloons may be removed or replaced as you adjust the color balance and shape during installation.

  • Inflation size variance — Under- or over-inflating changes how many balloons fit in a given linear foot, affecting your total count.

Rule of thumb: Order 10% more than your calculated design quantity, then round up to the nearest full pack. Calculate each color and size separately.

Organic Garlands

How Garlands Are Counted

Organic balloon garlands use a mix of sizes—typically 11" and 5", sometimes with larger accent balloons—clustered together.

Coverage per foot varies by inflation size, garland thickness, and how tightly the clusters are packed. For the examples below, use these starting estimates:

  • 11" latex: Approximately 10–12 balloons per linear foot for the main clusters

  • 5" latex: Approximately 8–10 balloons per linear foot when used generously as fill

These are planning estimates, not fixed requirements. A lighter garland may use fewer balloons, while a fuller design may use more. Make a test section before finalizing your quantities.

Worked Example — 20-Foot Organic Garland

Balloon Size Role Est. per Foot Linear Feet Calculated Need With 10% Buffer Packs to Order
11" latex Main clusters 11 20 220 242 5 bags of 50
5" latex Stuffers 9 20 180 198 2 bags of 100

Total estimated balloons: 400 before the buffer, 440 with the buffer. The packs above provide 450 balloons.

If you’re using multiple colors, calculate and round up each color separately. This may increase the number of bags needed.

Balloon Columns

How Columns Are Counted

A classic 4-balloon cluster column uses four balloons per cluster ring, stacked vertically. Column height, inflation size, and ring spacing determine the total balloons needed.

For the example below:

  • Balloons per cluster ring: 4

  • Estimated rings per foot: 1.5–2, depending on inflation size and spacing

  • Common column heights: 6 ft, 7 ft, and 8 ft

Worked Example — Pair of 6-Foot Columns

Parameter Value
Column height 6 feet
Rings per foot 2
Total rings per column 12
Balloons per ring 4
Balloons per column 48
Number of columns 2
Total calculated need 96
With 10% buffer, rounded up 106
Packs to order, using 50-count bags 3 bags for a single-color design

Pro tip: For two-tone columns alternating colors by ring, this example uses 24 balloons of each color per column. For the pair, that’s 48 of each color—or 53 of each color with the buffer. Using 50-count bags, you would need 2 bags of each color.

Balloon Arches

How Arches Are Counted

Balloon arches come in several styles. Two common options are:

  • Cluster arch: Four-balloon clusters arranged along an arch frame

  • Organic arch: Mixed balloon sizes arranged with varying density, similar to an organic garland

For a cluster arch, measure the total length of the arch frame along the curve, rather than measuring only the distance between its feet.

The examples below assume a 17-foot frame length for a 10-foot-wide arch. Your actual frame length will depend on the arch’s height and shape.

Worked Example — Single-Color 10-Foot Span Cluster Arch

Parameter Value
Estimated frame length 17 feet
Rings per foot 1.5
Total rings, rounded up 26
Balloons per ring 4
Total calculated need 104
With 10% buffer, rounded up 115
Packs to order, using 50-count bags 3 bags

Worked Example — Organic Arch With a 17-Foot Frame

Balloon Size Est. per Foot Frame Length Calculated Need With 10% Buffer Packs to Order
11" latex — main clusters 11 17 ft 187 206 5 bags of 50
5" latex — stuffers 8 17 ft 136 150 2 bags of 100

Calculate each color separately and round up to the pack size listed on the product.

Seasonal Planning: Halloween Balloons

Planning a Halloween installation? Our Halloween balloon collection includes latex and foil options in classic orange, black, purple, and festive prints for garlands, columns, and arch accents.

Use the same planning methods above for your chosen latex colors and sizes. Count decorative foils and specialty accents separately.

Quick Reference Cheat Sheet

Design Balloon Size / Role Starting Estimate Buffer
Organic garland or arch 11" latex — main clusters 10–12 balloons per foot +10%
Organic garland or arch 5" latex — generous fill 8–10 balloons per foot +10%
Cluster column or arch Latex — 4-balloon rings 6–8 balloons per foot at 1.5–2 rings per foot +10%

These estimates depend on inflation size and design density. Test a sample section before placing a large order.

A Few Professional Notes

  • Inflation size matters. An 11" balloon inflated to 9" takes up less space than one inflated to its intended size. Test your inflation size before finalizing quantities.

  • Plan for the setting. Outdoor installations exposed to heat or wind may need additional replacement balloons.

  • Mix sizes deliberately. Choose your balance of main balloons, small fillers, and larger accents based on the finished look you want.

  • Calculate each color separately. A total balloon count alone won’t tell you how many bags of each color to buy.

  • Round up to full packs. Always round your final quantity up to the pack size listed on the product to avoid running short mid-installation.
